The Mission Of The Monon Railroad Historical-Technical Society, Inc.
The Monon Railroad Historical-Technical Society, Inc. was formed
in the mid-1970s as a not-for-profit organization exclusively for educational
purposes by a group of individuals interested in preserving the memory of
the Monon Railroad. The three main purposes of The Monon Society, as it has
become known, are to: (A) Engage in the collection and preservation of information,
vestige, and other items of historical or technical interest concerning the
Monon Railroad
and its predecessor companies or subsidiaries. (B) Engage in research concerning
The Monon for educational purposes. (C) Maintain an association of persons
having an interest in The Monon.

The objective of the Monon Railroad Historical/Technical Society, Inc. is to collect, preserve and disseminate to its members historical, technical information and vestige on the Monon Railroad, its predecessor lines and the Monon Subdivision of CSX Transportation.
The Monon Railroad Historical/Technical society is a not-for-profit corporation chartered by the State of Indiana in 1975. All memberships are for the calendar year and include a subscription to the Society's publication, The Hoosier Line.
The Monon Railroad Historical/Technical Society holds its annual meeting each fall at locations along the Monon. Activities typically include tours of facilities in the area, modeling exhibits, and a swap session where railroad artifacts and Monon material can be bought, sold or traded. The highlight of the meeting is the annual banquet and the opportunity for members to show their best slides or films of the Monon.
The Hoosier Line is the quarterly publication of The Monon Railroad Historical/Technical Society with each year's final issue consisting of an all-Monon calendar. The Hoosier Line includes information on the organization and operation of the Monon throughout its existence of more than 100 years. Most issues include articles on Monon's equipment and facilities.

The Society is unfortunately in search of a new location for our World Headquarters. After many years in Linden, Indiana, the Linden-Madison Township organization has requested that the Society to leave. The Society will need to relocate to a new facility before May 2013. It is unfortunate that this occurred, but it is what it is.
Efforts are underway to expand the Depot Museum in Salem to accommodate the Monon Railroad Historical-Technical Society. Here is how you can help: Salem Depot Expansion Project
