The objective of the Monon Railroad Historical/Technical Society, Inc. is to collect, preserve and disseminate to its members historical, technical information and vestige on the Monon Railroad, its predecessor lines and the Monon Subdivision of CSX Transportation.

The Monon Railroad Historical/Technical society is a not-for-profit corporation chartered by the State of Indiana in 1975. All memberships are for the calendar year and include a subscription to the Society's publication, The Hoosier Line.

The Monon Railroad Historical/Technical Society holds its annual meeting each fall at locations along the Monon. Activities typically include tours of facilities in the area, modeling exhibits, and a swap session where railroad artifacts and Monon material can be bought, sold or traded. The highlight of the meeting is the annual banquet and the opportunity for members to show their best slides or films of the Monon.

The Hoosier Line is the quarterly publication of The Monon Railroad Historical/Technical Society with each year's final issue consisting of an all-Monon calendar. The Hoosier Line includes information on the organization and operation of the Monon throughout its existence of more than 100 years. Most issues include articles on Monon's equipment and facilities.

The Society now has a World Headquarters. In the joint venture between the Linden Madison Township Historical Society and the Monon Historical and Technical Society the new World Headquarters were established in Linden, Indiana. The Linden Madison Township Historical Society purchased the residence, south of the depot museum and is renting the structure to the Monon Society. Also, on display "in the valley" are two original Monon pieces of rolling stock, and a third is in the process of restoration. The Monon Society held their first board meeting in the house March 18, 2000 and as Monon president Frank Van Bree said "We have a home".

The official open house was held Saturday, July 28 2001 starting at 10:00 am lasting throughout the afternoon. The open house showcased the new Monon Society headquarters building and two Monon railroad cars that have been restored. The Monon Society headquarters contains the paper archives from the former railroad. In addition to the dedication ceremonies there was a presentation of plaques, displays of Monon artwork, use of a newly-installed radio antenna, and the sale of Monon Society products including model kits, china, and slides.

Members who are active modelers will be particularly interested in The Hoosier Line articles on modeling the Monon, which generally include detailing information and painting guidelines.

The Monon Railroad Historical/Technical Society also arranges for limited production runs of models of Monon equipment. The cars selected for sale to members are carefully researched by the Society to closely match the prototype and the custom painting precisely matches that applied by the Monon to their rolling stock while in train service.

CSX Transportation has awarded the Monon Railroad Historical/Technical Soceity custody of the Monon Railroad's engineering drawings.

Limited quantities of back issues of The Hoosier Line are available for sale. Because of their numbers, A listing of available issues will be furnished upon request.
