Gary Fire Department
May 22, 1952 the Gary Fire Department was called upon to assist the Lowell Fire Department. Units and manpower from Station 5, Glenn Park, responded to Lowell with industrial foam, which none of the local departments had available. Whether the foam was actually used is a matter for debate. Newspaper accounts claim that foam was utilized. Eyewitness accounts, by Lowell and St. John firefighters are conflicting. Since there has been no confirmation from the Gary Fire Department as to their response, the newspaper and eyewitness accounts will have to suffice. As to their accuracy, well we will just have to speculate.
We will continue to try and obtain something from the Gary Fire Department. When, or if we are successful, they will be added here.
