Express Box Car (Rebuilt Troop Kitchen Car)
Walthers Part # 932-4183
HO scale, $24.98, not currently in stock at Walthers, Expected: 19-Jul-2005
By 1946, the Army's special kitchen cars were no longer needed and were offered
for sale. Affordably priced, they required only minor modification for
civilian use as 50' box cars. But since they were equipped for high-speed
passenger service, they could easily be converted to other roles. Many
were remodeled with plated-over windows and vents, new side doors and a
fresh coat of paint. In service, they handled baggage, mail and express
shipments. Many led long lives, remaining in use until the late 1960s.

2004 Car Kit Project
This
steel boxcar first made its appearance on the Monon when Pullman-Standard,
in Michigan City, Indiana, built 150 40 foot single door cars in 1941,
followed by an additional 300 cars of the same design in 1942. The cars
were numbered 9000 through 9149 and 9150 through 9449.
These HO scale kits will be offered in 12 different number and include the minor varriations in lettering that occurred between the two series. As built, the kits for 9001-9150 are accurate. With the addition of National Malleable B-1 tucks (Lifelike and Eastern Car Works retails them) cars in the 9151-9449 series are accurate.
Prices:
$18.00 Single kit.
$17.00 each kit when ordering 2 through 6cars.
